And this is why solitude is so important

January 9th, 2012

Marianne Williamson writes in A Return to Love:

Our power doesn’t lie in our resume or our connections. Our power doesn’t lie in what we’ve done or even in what we’re doing. Our power lies in our clarity about why we’re on the earth.

I don’t know about you, but this clarity rarely comes from tweeting or earning another degree behind my name or even finishing a major project; it most often comes in moments of silence in which I am told to shift toward another direction, only slightly, just barely, just a tweak of the torso toward a truer path. Solitude is the surest way for me to register those shifts. And that is why I love it.

Williamson writes more:

Whatever our gift is to God, however humble it may seem, He can turn it into a mighty work on His behalf. Our greatest gift to Him is our devotion. From that point of power, doors open.

How badly I want doors to open for you today! That is my wish.
